Entertaiment refers to a broad category of activities that are engaging, exciting or pleasing, but often also playful and social. It can also serve educational purposes (1,4). The word is often abbreviated to entmt on fliers or in industry news publications where space is limited, but it is rarely abbreviated in general writing.
The power of entertainment to cross across different media is illustrated by the story of Scheherazade – an example from the Persian professional storytelling tradition that has inspired orchestral works by Rimsky-Korsakov, Ravel and Szymanowski; a film by Pasolini; and even an innovative video game.
